LFW 2016: Should the UK pass a Legislation in order to Protect the Health of Models?
Over the past couple of years, there has been an increasing amount of concern and debate over the well-being of models in the fashion industry. The fashion industry has been subject to criticism on the use of thin 'unhealthy' models which has resulted in Spain, Canada, France and Israel to pass legislation banning excessively thin models. However, with the UK being one of the world's biggest fashion capitals, there is currently no legislation that protects the health of models.
We asked members of the public:
Do you think the problem with model health is more of an internal industry problem, or rather, an external problem with those trying to get into the modelling industry? If it's the latter, how do you feel a Model Health Law would have an impact?
Considering the criticism of France using BMI (Body Mass Index) as a measure of regulation, how do you feel model health could be more effectively regulated if a UK Model Health Law was to be passed?
